Michael Flaherty Senior Vice President

Michael Flaherty is a senior vice president at Gladstone Place Partners. He advises companies on M&A, shareholder activism defense and preparation, corporate governance communications and reputation management.

His work includes advising The Walt Disney Company in its $71 billion acquisition of the entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox, GE’s announced separation of its healthcare business and stake in Baker Hughes and Staples Inc’s $483 million acquisition of Essendant. He has also worked on corporate communications and investor relations mandates for companies including Accenture, AT&T, Pfizer and Spark Therapeutics, Inc.

Before joining Gladstone Place, Michael spent 14 years as a journalist for Reuters News. He started at Reuters in New York as a companies reporter, moved to the stock market desk and then on to the finance/M&A team in 2005 to cover the private equity industry and U.S. leveraged buyouts. In 2008, he became the Asia Financial Correspondent for Reuters, based in Hong Kong. Among the roles he held in Hong Kong was Editor-in-Charge of the Asia finance reporting team and news file, which covered banks, deals, funds and financial regulation across the region. Michael moved to the Reuters Washington D.C. bureau in 2014 to cover the Federal Reserve. He later returned to New York to be the Reuters activist hedge fund and corporate governance beat reporter.

Michael earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English at Bowdoin College. In addition to his work at Gladstone, Michael is a part-time lecturer at Rutgers University and is the head coach and a board director of the Jersey Shore Youth Rugby Association. He also coaches girls lacrosse and little league baseball in Holmdel, NJ, where he lives with his wife and family.
